Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you offer any discounts?
A: Yes! We offer 10% off for students, teachers, first responders, military, and law enforcement. Thanks for what you do each day! We appreciate you and think you deserve a hard earned vacation! Discounts apply to BOARDING and IN-HOME VISITS only. **Effective April, 2020, a substantial discount will be offered to healthcare professionals working to provide essential services to the community during this time of a worldwide health crisis.

Q: Why do you have set drop off and pickup times, or why do we have to make reservations?
A: As you know, Perky Petz is a residential setting, not a facility. As such, we do not have a front desk set up where you enter in and check your pet(s) in and out. We have two front play yards where the play groups play during the morning, afternoon and evening. The dog(s) that frequent Perky Petz grow quite accustomed to their routines.
Since this is a residence and someone lives here, we ask that you be polite and stick to the hours and your appointment time. Our whole lives are scheduled around these times, including meal times, showers, grocery trips- literally everything you would do in life! We value and respect your time and ask that you please respect ours.

Q: What is included in your boarding pricing?
A: Your dog is staying in a home setting, not a kennel. You get individualized attention, with lots of love. Your dog gets unlimited playtime. If he or she needs medication administered, most of the time there is no extra charge. You will get text and picture updates. Most days, besides Monday and Friday, you will get to pick up until 8 pm. Should you get delayed, your dog will be able to spend the night with morning pickup the next day for no extra charge. A lot bundled in to a very good rate!

Q: Why do you not have last minute availability?
A: Unfortunately, we take a very small number of dogs compared to large facilities that take 50-100 dogs per day. While we love our clients and would love to be able to say yes to everyone, that is just not possible. We do provide individualized attention and small play groups and want to keep it that way. There is room in this building to take more, but we choose to keep the cap lower on purpose. Book early!

Q: Do you offer any discounts?

Q: So, my dog gets really anxious at kennels. Do you think this is a better setting for him?
A: Absolutely! This is why we started this business- to provide a more less stressful setting for your pup. Rather than being stuck in a crate and only let outside a few times per day, surrounded by other highly stressed, anxious dogs, your dog will really be in a home away from home. We do recommend a trial day of daycare if your dog is highly anxious, just to get him or her used to this setting, but overall MOST dogs that are non-aggressive and comfortable around other dogs and people do just fine here.

Q: Do you do long term boarding? Do you offer discounts?
A: We do accept long term boarders! We can look to negotiate pricing for multiple pets, but the longer your pet(s) are left here, the MORE stimulation they actually require since they will miss mom and dad. Therefore, it’s actually more work for us. We love all dogs dearly but believe in fair pricing for the work that we do. Remember, dogs here receive lots of love and attention, lots of playtime and individualized attention. This is not kennel boarding where they are crated most of the day.

Q: I don’t want my dog to get dirty. What can we do?
A: Unfortunately, this is an indoor/outdoor daycare and boarding setup. If your dog gets dirty or stinky, it means he/she had fun! If you are worried about that, this is probably not the place you want to pick to board your pet.

Q: What’s Groom ‘n Board?
A: Groom ‘n Board is our sister company that offers boarding for geriatric dogs and smaller dogs that might not do well with a larger number of dogs. Ian Anthony, the owner, also provides excellent grooming services, in a home-based setting. Check them out!

Q: Why is my dog thirsty/hungry/tired when I pick them up?
A: Dogs are given ample access to food, water, and definitely get time to sleep while they are here boarding with us. However, they also get a LOT more exercise than they are used to on a daily basis! So, of course they may be usually hungry, thirsty or tired when they get home. It’s not unusual for dogs to want to sleep for 2-3 days after boarding. It means they had a ton of fun!

Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we are licensed and insured. We are a legitimated business and have all the legitimate business items. Our staff and subcontractors are also covered under our legitimate business insurance.

Q: Does Alicia EVER take time off? What about burnout?
A: I laugh every time I get this question. Yes, I take time off 😊 I have highly trained staff members that work when I am out of town- and occasionally you may ask for boarding dates and I may tell you that – gasp- we are closed during that time! I have one of my Master’s in Social Work, so I understand the importance of self-care. My dogs and I enjoy going to training classes, participating in trials at dog shows, going to the beach, and I LOVE traveling and going to concerts. If I am not at work, I probably am at one of those events and hanging out with my pups or my best friends. That said, I DO work a lot; 80-hour weeks, to be exact. I love my job, I love your pets, I love what I do each day. I am committed to this business. You have to be in order to achieve success.

Q:: What is your address?
A: We are a residential setting, so we only provide our address upon reservation for safety and security purposes.
